Signs of spring

Spring came late this year but at last it's here and I celebrated by going for my first morning excursion today. The sun was shining, there it wasn't too warm and tender young blooms gently swayed in the morning breeze.

It is also true that spring in the time for young love. I didn't see any of that but I did come across some old love:

And some family love:

Wonderful day at wonderland

We go to Wonderland once a year when my brother in law who works for Scotia Bank gets tickets to go on friends and family day to the park. The advantages of going on this day is that the park is not open to the general public and therefore is much less crowded. One demographic that is happily missing on this day is gaggle of teens. The main disadvantage of going on this day is that it falls in April and you know what they say, April showers bring may flowers. So suffice to say that the weather in Canada is not always pleasant in April. In fact the last two years that we've been, its been drizzling ice rain. Brrrrr. This year was slightly different. The ice rain did not start until 5:30 PM. We were able to play for most of the day. Yay!
My favorite part of the day was not any particular ride but instead watching my brother-in-law try to climb up the Jacob's ladder. He spent several minutes googling how to climb the ladder before his turn and got halfway up the ladder very quickly. He paused halfway up and in that one second, fell with a loud thump onto the cushioning underneath = )

Macho Makeover

I love my husband's cherubic looks. My daughter wanted to enhance his looks. What do you think of her handiwork?

The earth is like a child

Spring has finally sprung in our neighborhood but my kids are still hibernating:

So I thought we would do a little outdoor scavenger hunt. I had a list of 10 spring things that my son had to find and take pictures of.
1. A tree - unfortunately it had no leaves.

2. Grass - at least it's a little green

3. A leaf - he found a dead one from last fall

4. Flower - ditto

5. A bike we bumped into a little girl driving around the neighborhood and she was kind enough to let us take a picture

6. A smile  - it was a self portrait

7.  A rock

8. A cloud

9. The Sun

10. A bug - the best we could find was a dried up earthworm. At least it was heart shaped.

Maybe spring hasn't really sprung yet.

Ephemeral moment

My little girl loves to play dress up. Today she pulled out an old scarf out from her dress up box. She tried several unsuccessful ways of putting it on before she asked for my help. The best I could do was improvise and wrap her in it like a sari. She tottered around the living room in it for a few minutes, reveling in the feel of the fabric swishing around her. I was able to catch this fleeting moment of her giggling in her "sari" before it all unraveled.

Blessing in disguise

This morning my sister and I were upset. We had booked our mother and ourselves triple pedicures for as a treat for our mother's birthday but the salon called told us they could no longer accommodate us as an esthetician had called in sick. Instead of being sad my resourceful mother suggested we try a small non-descript spa next to the local Chinese supermarket. I grudgingly agreed but internally I was recoiling. I imagined sitting in cheap plastic chairs under harsh fluorescent lights, having my toenails painfully buffed by a chatty pedicurist. I was pleasantly surprised when we were ushered into a very modern and stylish spa space. The experience was far from what I expected. First we were served green tea.

Cheers to us

Then we got a lovely foot soak

Our estheticians were so kind to us. For the reflexology massage part of our treatment they turned down the lights and let us take a nap. Afterwards the painted our toenails.

These are the colors we chose. Can you guess which feet are mine?

My mother opted to go for a facial instead of a pedicure and she came out of her treatment glowing. After we finished at the spa we rejoined the rest of our family. Hmmmm it appears my son's hair has grown, no wait someone did a switcheroo, that's my niece!

We had a delicious dinner together.

My niece made me a heart out of crispy noodles.

It was a great end to the birthday festivities.

Choo choo

The first loud peal of thunder for 2013 rolled across the skies over the Glue household last night but we were safely ensconced in the basement and didn't hear it. We were busy being creative. My son was especially productive he drew a picture of really long train.

My daughter was so impressed by it that she wanted to take a picture with the drawing as well.
