Macho Makeover

I love my husband's cherubic looks. My daughter wanted to enhance his looks. What do you think of her handiwork?

The earth is like a child

Spring has finally sprung in our neighborhood but my kids are still hibernating:

So I thought we would do a little outdoor scavenger hunt. I had a list of 10 spring things that my son had to find and take pictures of.
1. A tree - unfortunately it had no leaves.

2. Grass - at least it's a little green

3. A leaf - he found a dead one from last fall

4. Flower - ditto

5. A bike we bumped into a little girl driving around the neighborhood and she was kind enough to let us take a picture

6. A smile  - it was a self portrait

7.  A rock

8. A cloud

9. The Sun

10. A bug - the best we could find was a dried up earthworm. At least it was heart shaped.

Maybe spring hasn't really sprung yet.

Ephemeral moment

My little girl loves to play dress up. Today she pulled out an old scarf out from her dress up box. She tried several unsuccessful ways of putting it on before she asked for my help. The best I could do was improvise and wrap her in it like a sari. She tottered around the living room in it for a few minutes, reveling in the feel of the fabric swishing around her. I was able to catch this fleeting moment of her giggling in her "sari" before it all unraveled.

Blessing in disguise

This morning my sister and I were upset. We had booked our mother and ourselves triple pedicures for as a treat for our mother's birthday but the salon called told us they could no longer accommodate us as an esthetician had called in sick. Instead of being sad my resourceful mother suggested we try a small non-descript spa next to the local Chinese supermarket. I grudgingly agreed but internally I was recoiling. I imagined sitting in cheap plastic chairs under harsh fluorescent lights, having my toenails painfully buffed by a chatty pedicurist. I was pleasantly surprised when we were ushered into a very modern and stylish spa space. The experience was far from what I expected. First we were served green tea.

Cheers to us

Then we got a lovely foot soak

Our estheticians were so kind to us. For the reflexology massage part of our treatment they turned down the lights and let us take a nap. Afterwards the painted our toenails.

These are the colors we chose. Can you guess which feet are mine?

My mother opted to go for a facial instead of a pedicure and she came out of her treatment glowing. After we finished at the spa we rejoined the rest of our family. Hmmmm it appears my son's hair has grown, no wait someone did a switcheroo, that's my niece!

We had a delicious dinner together.

My niece made me a heart out of crispy noodles.

It was a great end to the birthday festivities.

Choo choo

The first loud peal of thunder for 2013 rolled across the skies over the Glue household last night but we were safely ensconced in the basement and didn't hear it. We were busy being creative. My son was especially productive he drew a picture of really long train.

My daughter was so impressed by it that she wanted to take a picture with the drawing as well.

Ballerina

Since I'm such a fabulous mother, I forgot that we signed my daughter up for ballet class until 5PM on a sunday. None of the specialty stores that sells ballet gear were open so we ended up trying to be creative at Walmart. This is what we came up with:

It's a 18-24 month onesie. Thank god Walmart sizes tend on the big side and thank god tutus are still in this year! It's not ghetto is it?

An afternoon at the cinema

We took the kids to watch the Croods which is a movie about some caveman. The preview looked funny enough but the movie itself had some terrifying moments, especially if you are 3 and 5. For example a whole continent is destroyed and there are earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, huge cracks opening up in the ground. It was like an animated version of 12 12 21 but set in the past and in 3D.
This is how the kids looked like before the movie:

This is them watching the movie:

They are riveted bit also scared. I hope they don't have nightmares! Don't get me wrong it was a great movie, but maybe not for little kids.

Paradox

Today he came home and had a hour long tantrum over taking his boots and coat off. It was so bad I almost lost my mind trying to reason with him. Then he does this:

After dinner he asked to vacuum, and then he proceeded to clean the whole kitchen. He had so much fun he says he's going to vacuum everyday!
